About us

Unitas was set up by Mr Darrell Ponniah, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, in 1997 to service the intermodal container financing needs of container shipping lines and other users. As a financing specialist at that time, Unitas used a wide range of lease and structured finance products to provide its clients with bespoke solutions. Unitas' success has been built on its ability to respond to the needs of a competitive, rapidly evolving global market but with very much of a local focus. In 2006, having already financed a container fleet with an original equipment cost of over $750 million, Unitas expanded its activities to include full-service master lease and term leasing products using its access to the capital markets and expertise in structured finance to expand its network globally to establish a team of experienced leasing professionals and extensive depot facilities worldwide. In 2007, Unitas further diversified its operating lease portfolio, by establishing a dedicated tank container leasing division supplying high-quality intermodal tank equipment for both the chemical and food industries transporting bulk liquids. The Unitas tank fleet offers a wide range of capacities between 17,000L up to 35,000L of varying types including bottom and top discharge, swap tanks, gas tanks, and other specialised equipment for dedicated cargoes. This growth and expansion were underpinned by investment in web-based communication and information technology to enable the company to offer flexible leasing products and superior services to an increasingly sophisticated client base. Unitas has emerged over this period of time as a reliable and serious global container lessor with a clear and identifiable niche. Unitas aims to serve its customers’ needs through its emphasis on value-added services, not just in the established European and US markets, but also in emerging markets and right across Asia. Unitas has a flat organisation structure to ensure a responsive service built upon its experienced team of dedicated professionals.
